Lawmakers believe AeroShot will be abused by teenagers.

Harvard University professor David Edwards believes his new breathable caffeine product AeroShot is a revolution in energy supplements. However, some lawmakers think the product is a recipe for danger.

The product is a lipstick sized capsule that dispenses caffeine powder when users puff on the tip. Each AeroShot delivers 100mg of caffeine, roughly the same amount as one large cup of coffee. The powder is lime-flavored and dissolves in the mouth. It is absorbed into the digestive tract, not the lungs.

Senator Charles Schumer (D-New York), who led the campaign against the dangers of the alcoholic energy drink, Four-Loko, said AeroShot is the next tool for kids looking to binge drink. Schumer called on the Food and Drug Administration to look into how the product is being sold.

AeroShot did not have to pass an FDA approval process before hitting shelves in New York, Massachusetts, and being sold online, because it is being marketed as a dietary supplement. There are no age restrictions on who can buy AeroShot. However the manufacturer, Breathable Foods, Inc., said the product is not intended for people under the age of 12.

“The good news is, caffeine is in and out of your system pretty fast. The problem is, let’s say they want to stay more awake so they can drink more. Oh, there’s always going to be that,” said Dr. Tim Howard, who operates a general family practice in Huntsville. “If you do it responsibly, say, first thing in the morning you don’t have time to get a cup of coffee you have one of these and you’ve got big meetings or something like that, then I don’t have any problems using it for that kind of situation.”

AeroShot executives said the product is not marketed toward children and even adults should not take more than three AeroShots in one day. According to their marketing materials, they believe AeroShot is “perfect for early morning runners or health-conscious athletes looking for a boost of pre-workout energy without the known additives of other energy products.”

FDA officials said they plan to look into the safety and sales category of the product.

While the debate continues in India over an anti-graft ombudsman, the study by the international watchdog had showed the country’s image declining consistently over the past three years. This year, the country had scored 3.1 on 10, with 10 being the highest score.

Since 2007 when India was ranked 72 among 180 countries with a score of 3.5, the score has declined, so have the rankings. Last year, India was placed at 87.

The CPI ranks countries based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be and is a composite index that draws on data and studies by a number of specialised international agencies through a complex process.

India’s score was a result of an average of 13 studies including World Bank’s Country Performance and Institutional Assessment, World Economic Forum Executive Opinion Survey and Global Insight Country Risk Ratings, among others.

With the unearthing of major scams, arrests of influential people over corruption and a movement for a Lokpal stealing headlines in India, people associated with Transparency International India said since the study is a measurement of perception, these factors could have marginally contributed to the decline.

With many investors worried the price of gold could head lower, today King World News interviewed the “London Trader” to get his take on the gold market. The source stated, “The Chinese have continued to take delivery of both physical gold and silver directly from the ETF’s GLD and SLV. They are also going directly to producers. “They (bullion banks) hold that little bit of physical gold and claim they are backed up on their position to the CFTC. We’re struggling to get the physical out of these guys (producers) because they have so many people banging on their door, saying, ‘Sell it to us direct.’ What these buyers are doing is essentially taking gold out of the system, which means the bullion banks can’t leverage that gold anymore.

So this is a huge, dynamic shift that wasn’t there before. Now we are working on one other thing. We’re beginning to offer them forward contracts. If you are a sovereign entity, what you are saying to these producers, especially on new projects, is, ‘Why don’t you sell the gold to me in 12 months? Here’s the cash, just provide it to me 12 months from now.’

These buyers are now cutting off future gold supply from the bullion banks….

“This is a huge, tectonic shift in price dynamics going forward because it is taking price discovery away from the bullion banks. These large Chinese buyers and sovereign entities which are doing this are going to have a massive impact on the market.

Interestingly, so many people are bearish on gold right now and looking for a collapse in the price of gold. They don’t understand what is happening in the physical market. The bullish fundamentals I just described to you have enormous implications.

We are making a historic bottom right now. The paper gold, or virtual gold market, has diverged so far from the physical market that it’s no longer a credible marketplace. That’s the key thing that came out of a very important meeting I was in yesterday where we had some serious players. The people I was meeting with are all on the buy side and have been since the lows last week.

There are massive physical orders, sitting, waiting for any more discounts, and yet everyone else seems to be short. So you have huge fuel for a rally here.
